Green Recovery Nigeria Initiative

The Green Recovery Nigeria Initiative was planned to increase Nigeria's forest cover from the current 5% to the FAO's recommended 25% of the national land cover by 2050. Our hybrid bamboo comes when Nigeria faces high environmental degradation, particularly deforestation. SCS intends to contribute to the Green Recovery Nigeria Initiative by making available our hybrid bamboo sapling that is fast-growing, resilient, needs no replanting, and sequesters high amount of atmospheric carbon than other tree plants.

Great Green Wall

One of our objectives is to carry out experimental planting of our hybrid in parts of the North-west and North-east geopolitical zones of Nigeria which is classified as a desertified environment. Our effort will help halt the spread of desertification, enabling us to reclaim and restore the environment.

Industrial development

The need to develop sustainable alternative raw materials to enhance Nigeria’s industrial development cannot be over-emphasized. The development of some critical raw materials in Nigeria is at its ebb. This has led to the collapse of essential industries, particularly the paper and textile industries, to mention a few.

Furthermore, the impact of the covid19 pandemic as it relates to trade limitations between countries further reinforces those mentioned earlier. Though some efforts have been made to develop locally produced raw materials, more can be done to make Nigeria more reliant on locally made raw materials.

According to the Chief executive officer, of FAE Limited and chairman of Printing and Publishing Group, LCCI, Princess Funmilayo Bakare Okeowo, Nigeria imports about 4 million metric tons of paper annually, which is worth at least $5.2 billion.

Our plans to establish sustainable hybrid bamboo plantations to develop renewable and sustainable raw materials for various industries will impact the development of Nigeria’s industrial sector and the economy at large.

Unemployment

Our project will contribute directly and indirectly to reducing unemployment in Nigeria by creating sustainable green jobs.
